Ewrap, Ewrap, Purl Winter Hat

A very soft, thick hat.

Supplies:
Plastic Knifty Knitter Round Loom with 36 pegs
2 skeins Yarn Bee Cameo Bulky - color Plum Quartz from Hobby Lobby or buy online here.
Loom hook and needle

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pclJ7gUvEAY - A video created by Isela Phillips showing Ewrap (twisted knit stitch) and purl stitches.

**Work with 2 strands of yarn held together as one. I found it helpful to hold two strands together and wind them into a loose ball, then knit on the loom. The yarn don’t seem to twist as badly as trying to loom with two separate skeins of yarn. Each loop you create will have two strands of yarn, but consider it one.

Cast on: Make a slip knot and put it on peg1, ewrap remaining 35 pegs or use your favorite cast on method. It doesn’t matter if you work clockwise or counterclockwise around the loom.

Row1 – ewrap pegs 1 and 2, but do not knit them off, we will knit them off during the next row. Purl peg 3. Repeat around the loom. Purling peg 3 will hold the ewraps on pegs 1 and 2. It’s like multi tasking on the loom.

Row2 - knit the bottom loops over the top loop on pegs 1 and 2.
Ewrap pegs 1 and 2 and purl peg 3. Repeat around the loom. With this method you won’t need to label which pegs need purled, you won’t lose your place. Just keep saying Knit Knit Purl, Knit Knit Purl.

Repeat row 2 for a total of 40 rows.

Row40 - knit off all the ewrap pegs. You now have one loop of two strands of yarn on each peg

Bind off: Cut the yarn leaving a long tail. Use the gather method to remove the hat from the loom and weave in the tails of yarn.

** gather method - Thread the long tail onto the yarn needle. Starting on peg1 pull the yarn through each consecutive loop and remove loops from the loom. After all the loops are removed from the loom, pull the long tail tight, tie a knot and weave the tail inside the hat.

Half Herringbone Faggot Scarf

Supplies
41 peg large yellow knifty knitter loom
2 skeins Yarn Bee Cameo Bulky
Loom tool, yarn needle

Stitches used -
cast on – lucet - described below
knit - Not EWRAP http://decoraccentsinc.com/knit_stitch_movie.html
purl http://decoraccentsinc.com/purl_stitch_movie.html
yarn over - described below
bind off – described below
It might be helpful for you to mark your loom with masking tape or a permanent marker pegs 1 through 16 to help you keep count of your stitches.

Cast on an even amount of stitches, such as 16 (use 40 for shawl). To cast on, make a slip knot about 8 inches into the yarn and place it on peg 1. Double wrap peg 2 and knit the bottom loop over the top loop, and tighten. Continue for your desired amount of pegs. Remember to cast on an even amount of stitches.

Row 1 – knit all 16 pegs

Row 2 – PURL - purl the stitch on peg 1.

Purl the stitch on peg 2 but put the loop on peg 1 and gently pull the loop snug. You now have 2 loops on peg1 and nothing on peg2.

Lay the yarn in front of peg 2 as if to yarn over and then purl the stitch on peg 3 as normal. Purl the stitch on peg 4 but put the loop on peg 3 and gently pull snug. Lay the yarn in front of peg 4 and repeat across the remaining stitches.

You now have 15 pegs with yarn on them. All the odd pegs have 2 loops and all the even pegs have yarn laying in front of them.

Peg 16 is empty but we well fix that in row 3.

Row 3 – KNIT - Wrap the yarn twice around peg 16, or your last peg and knit off the bottom loop over the top loop so that you have 16 pegs with yarn on them.

Knit stitch 15 but put the loop on peg 16.

Lay the yarn in front of peg 15 and knit peg 14 and repeat across the remaining stitches.Wrap the yarn twice around peg 1, or your last peg and knit off the bottom loop over the top loop so that you have 16 pegs with yarn on them.

All the even pegs will have 2 loops and all the odd pegs will have yarn lying in front of them.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 for approximately 200 rows or 2 skeins or 6 feet in length.

Last row - Knit all 16 pegs

Bind off - You can use your favorite bind off method, or you can use this bind off which doesn’t require a crochet hook. Starting on the end of the loom that has the working yarn, wrap the yarn loosely in front of the first peg and knit off, then place this loop on the second peg. Keep the yarn loose. Wrap the yarn around the second peg and knit off the two bottom loops over the top and place this loop on the third peg. Continue to the last peg after you knit the two loops over the top loop cut the yarn leaving an 8 inch tail and then wrap the yarn in front of the last peg and using the hook pull the yarn through the loop. Take the loop off the peg and tighten.

Use yarn needle to hide the tails into work.

My name in lights

Well my name in lights died, but I'm keeping the comment, it's from my Dad!!

What I'm working on now

I will be writing patterns for these items soon.

May 30, 2007 - The yarn fairy brought me yarn today!!

On the 5 foot Decor Accent Infinity Loom I am making an afghan using only half the pegs. Boy this is going together fast!!
This is only 4 skeins of yarn so far. I have been working on this project for 4 days so I am ready to start skein five. The yarn is Yarn Bee Icelandic Jewel. I figure 8 skeins will be enough for the full afghan. Maybe another for some trim.

Here is a close up of the pattern result.

Here is how the yarn is laid on the pegs.

And cause I love to needle knit, I am tackling a large panel afghan. Using size 15 straight knitting needles I am doing a faggot stitch afghan. The pattern is made from 3 simple stitches, knit 1, yarn over, knit 2 together. I am making 3 panels and will 'stitch' them together. Each panel is 54 stitches wide and 5 skeins long. Yarn used is Wool Ease Thick and Quick which is very thick. Two panels are made with the wheat color and one panel will be charcoal. Charcoal is also the color I will edge and bind the panels together with. It's very heavy for an open weave. I have one panel finished and this is 2 skeins into the second panel. To keep the yarn from leaping off the needles when I'm not knitting I wrap a rubber hair band around both needles.

Here is a closeup of the pattern.

Loomed Pony Tail Hat

KK Green loom, 36 pegs
2 strands Red Heart super saver purple yarn held together *treated as one thread
hook/needle
**How wide you make your brim depends on the thickness of your yarn. I'm using a thin yarn. My brim is about 3 inches

Lucet cast on

Row1 purl

Row2 through 19 garter stitch **See a video tip

Row 20 ewrap, don't knit off yet

knit off peg2, purl peg2 but place the loop on peg3
knit off peg3, purl peg3 but place the loop on peg4
knit off peg4, purl peg2 but place the loop on peg5
You have 4 empty pegs - now do the garter stitch from peg5 to peg36
example -knit off peg5, purl and place the loop on peg5, continue

Row22/23 lucet cast on peg1, ewrap peg1-don't knit off yet
lucet cast on peg2, ewrap peg2-don't knit off yet

Row24/27 Do 4 more rows of garter stitch, ewrap row24, purl row 25, ewrap row 26, purl row 27

Row 28-40 ewrap and knit off each row until desired length.

Use the needle and the gather method to remove the hat from the loom. Make a pompom if you know how. I don't know how, I just wind a ton of yarn around 2 pegs of a 12 peg wooden loom, tie it in the middle and snip the ends. Weave in any tails. Now you can turn up the brim if you want to, wear your hat with your pony tail in a holder, or if you're like me, just slip your hair through the hole.
